For more than 30 years, Judge Downey has served as an Adjunct Professor of Law at South Texas College of Law in Houston and received the College’s Professor of Excellence Award (1990-1991). His trial advocacy course highlights proven techniques in presenting a case to a court or jury and involves intensive analysis of both the state and federal rules of evidence. His course in entertainment law concerns the application of copyright and trademark law to litigation in the entertainment industry, primarily involving the music business.
He has published several legal articles on civil trial law and is a frequent speaker at legal seminars. He has recently published a casebook for use in his entertainment law class entitled, “Cases and Materials in Entertainment Litigation,” c. 2013.
