Judge Dan Downey

Judge Downey has been practicing civil trial law in Texas for more than 44 years. During that time, his practice as both an advocate and mediator/arbitrator has been in the areas of construction law, business law, products liability, personal injury, employment disputes, copyright and trademark, real property, oil & gas, and pharmaceutical litigation pending in federal and state courts. He has been an adjunct professor of law at South Texas College of Law for over 30 years teaching trial advocacy, (focusing on the rules of evidence and techniques for effective courtroom presentation), entertainment law and sports law, (focusing on issues of copyright, trademark and right of publicity). He is frequently called upon to offer expert testimony on issues of attorneys’ fees and breach of fiduciary duty.

Judge Downey is Board Certified in Civil Trial Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization, a distinction enjoyed by only a small percentage of Texas lawyers.

Judge Downey is a reader on the website Sight Into Sound, which is an organization providing audio recordings for those who are blind or have significant vision challenges. He reads and records books and newspapers in both English and Spanish.
